Day 1: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Cedar Forest ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga

Distance: ~470 km
Driving Time: 7–8 hours (including scenic stops)

Your journey begins with an early departure from Fes at around 8:00 AM. We travel south through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains.

Our first stop is Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its European-style architecture and clean streets.

We continue toward the cedar forests near Azrou, where you may encounter the famous Barbary macaques.

After lunch in Midelt, we drive through the breathtaking Ziz Valley, filled with palm groves and dramatic canyon landscapes.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara Desert.

After breakfast, we explore the fascinating desert region around Merzouga.

Visit nomadic Berber families to learn about their traditional desert lifestyle. Continue to Khamlia village to experience authentic Gnawa music.

In the late afternoon, prepare for the highlight of your journey — a camel trekking experience across the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi.

As the sun sets over the Sahara, the dunes glow in golden and orange tones — an unforgettable moment.

After breakfast at the camp, return by camel or 4×4 to Merzouga village. We then begin our journey back to Fes.

We retrace our scenic route through the Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping for photos and breaks along the way.

Arrival in Fes is expected in the late afternoon or early evening.
